About the Variety
The SL28/34 varietal is almost exclusively grown by Kenyan producers on small farms where coffee is cultivated alongside subsistence crops. This varietal is renowned for producing the best Kenyan coffees with strong citric and malic acidity and juicy flavors, a result of Kenya's nutrient-rich volcanic soil and the varietal's natural characteristics.

Production
Produced by Kamavindi Factory in Embu, Kenya at an elevation of 1650-1800m. This field blend combines SL 28/34, Batian, and Ruiri II varieties, all processed using the washed method with double fermentation to remove the parchment layer and develop clarity in the cup.

Roaster Notes
Great Kenyan coffee is about as bold in flavor and naturally complex as coffee gets without introducing modern processing techniques. The washed process results in high-clarity, delicate flavors achieved through mechanical de-pulping, repeated washing with clean water to remove fruit mucilage, fermentation to eliminate the parchment layer, and drying in a single layer either in the sun or in shade for several days. The best Kenyan coffees have strong citric and malic acidity with juicy flavors like raisin and ripe berries, the result of nutrient rich volcanic soil and the famous SL28/34 varietal.
